I dye my hair, a lot. I’ll be totally honest with you, if you can think of a colour, it has been on my hair, some a lot nicer than others. I had been red for a long time, and thought that it was time for a change!

Years of hair dye has definitely taken its toll on the state of my hair, and I did have to cut it all off about 4 years ago, and it’s taken that long for it to grow to where it is now really! I took a long break from dying my hair, as I hated it being so short, but once it reached a reasonable length, I was back down the hair dye isle.

I have never had my hair dyed professionally, and always done it at home, a lot of people will think that this is a huge mistake, however I don’t see why. No matter where you dye it, home or at a salon, if you do it too much, it will kill your hair. That’s a given. It just takes being sensible, knowing your products and methods. Years of hair dye has definitely taught me what works for my hair, and how to care for it properly.

As I mentioned, I have had red hair for a long time now, it’s my go to colour for hair dye. I tend to go for Live xxl’s ‘Real Red’, as this gives me the most vibrant colour, however I don’t particularly like the brand or the staying power of the dye! Having bright red hair means that it fades to ginger quite quickly, and although theres nothing wrong with that, it’s just not what I wanted. Hair dye takes a lot of upkeep.

Anyway, I had my classic red for the festive season, as usual, and though it was time for a change. I had been debating it, then on my way to work I just nipped in to a local hair care store and picked up a couple of bottles of ‘Crazy Colour’ ‘Violette’. These are only semi permanent dyes, however you just don’t get the same intensity of colour with permanent colours I find. I was back and forth on the idea of going through with it, but after a quick strand test (just to see if it would take okay over my faded red hair), I just went for it!

I’m quite happy with the outcome, it’s almost a bit two-toned. Due to the red underneath, the purple is definitely red toned, in certain lights it looks quite red still, but in day light it is most definitely purple!

Let me know what you think of it! Have you had your hair any vibrant colours? If not, are there any you’re wanting to experiment with? I find dying my hair so much fun, it’s a great way to express yourself!
