I relatively recently picked up the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette in a mini beauty haul and wanted to try and test it properly before I gave you a review of this palette. The time has now come for me to share with you my thoughts on this well-known and loved palette.

As expected from the name of this palette, the packaging looks like a chocolate bar, how sweet! The case is a very sturdy tin, which I like, as I find plastic cases break very easily. But to the point, is the packaging really what we pay all that money for? I dont think so. This palette has 16 eyeshadow shades, a mix of shimmer and matte shades in typical chocolate colours, which are infused with 100% natural cocoa powder and, as you would expect from cocoa powder, smell deliciously of chocolate.

There is not a single shade in this palette which I do not love and would not use, they’re all shockingly gorgeous and really highly pigmented.  The fallout of these shadows is very minimal, and the colour payoff is wonderful with the glorious added bonus of a gorgeous chocolate scent. I’m not exactly sure why they’re scented, but it adds something fun and appealing to the palette. I will say, without a primer, these shadows creased up on me very quickly, so I had to ensure I was using a decent primer to get the best outcome with these.

The right hand side of the palette has definitely had the most use so far, as this side has more of the natural colours, varying tones and hues of brown. These are the colours I have been reaching for most over the past month or so. My favourite look to go for with this is ‘White Chocolate’ all over the lid as a base colour, with ‘Salted Caramel’ blended into the crease as a transition colour. I would then use ‘Marzipan’ over the lid and either ‘Hazelnut’ or ‘Haute Chocolate’ in the outer corner and blended into the crease. This has been a go to look for me for a while now! (I would then use a pop of ‘Champagne Truffle’ in the inner corner)

Although the left hand side of the palette has been used considerably less, that does not mean that the colours are not stunning, I just don’t reach for these when getting ready for work in the morning, as I try to go for a more natural look for work. At first I was a little dubious of ‘Strawberry Bonbon’ and ‘Candied Violet’ as these are not the sort of colours I would be drawn to, but they are actually really flattering. Trying out the pink shade has made me realise that pink on the eye is actually quite complimentary to blue eyes, and I should do it more! I would be lying if I didn’t say that ‘Cherry Cordial’ was one of the main reasons I picked up this palette and not the Semi Sweet chocolate bar, I just could not leave this colour behind. It’s stunning, and I really need the opportunity to do a dramatic smokey eye with this! ‘Champagne Truffle’ has been my go to colour for the inner corner of my eye since the day I took this home.

I will apologise now for my poor swatching abilities, but taking these photos with one arm whilst holding my other out in front of it was actually pretty challenging for me and my massive camera! But looking past that, you can see how gorgeous and pigmented some of these shadows are. Some are slightly less pigmented than others, however they are all easily buildable, and it is possible to get the colour on your lid as is seen in the pans. ‘Strawberry Bonbon’ for example shows very little colour initially, however when built up is a gorgeous light pink.

I fell in love with this palette the moment I opened it and have been dying to write all about it, although I’m sure you all know of the wonders of the Too Faced Chocolate Bar already! I couldn’t recommend this enough, and if you’re looking for a really good quality, gorgeous palette with natural and dramatic shades, I would say look no further. There is something in this palette for everyone, and I can’t wait to get my hands on more Too Faced eyeshadow palettes!

Have you tried out this palette, do you love it as much as I do? What other wonderful eyeshadow palettes out there that I need to get my hands on? Let me know, and as always, chat to me in the comments!
