I have been really into my face masks recently, and as you all probably know really well, I am also really into The Body Shop. Combine the two: Bliss. A few weeks ago I popped into my local store and picked up both the Seaweed and Tea Tree face masks. I love both of these ranges, so was excited to try these out.
The seaweed one was picked up due to two factors. One: I have almost everything else from this range and it is my daily skin care. Two: A strong recommendation came from a friend of mine, who also happens to work in the Body Shop and is constantly giving me advice, Chloe. The tea tree one I picked up due to the fact that I had been suffering with breakouts a fair bit, I had been using the tea tree exfoliator and oil, and was interested to find out how this would help me. These are clay masks and are recommended to be used twice a week, so I alternate between the two.
SEAWEED OIL-BALANCING CLAY MASK
This mask, as is the rest of the Seaweed range, is recommended for people with combination skin, so oily in some areas and dry in others. I suffer with an oily T-zone and chin, where my cheeks are often quite dry and I have found that the seaweed range of skincare products has been combating this nicely.
This mask dries solid, it’s one of those masks where if you smile or laugh if feels like you’re snapping your face in half, but in kind of a good way? Anyway, when this dries you can really see that it’s working, it digs right deep down into the pores to draw out impurities, and honestly the results of this are pretty much instant. My face looks and feels so much clearer after 10-15 minutes of this on my face.
It’s a bit of a pain to get off, literally, it feels like it’s pulling out facial hair when it’s coming off if you rub it, so I’ve found the easiest way to get this off painlessly is to soak it off, but sometimes the pain of rubbing it off is nice… It feels like it’s working.
I totally recommend this to anyone who really wants to combat their oily areas and digging out impurities. I would not recommend this for anyone with sensitive skin however, my mother tried this and had to take it off immediately as her face was reportedly ‘burning’, I can’t say I felt this sensation, but if you’ve got sensitive skin, maybe give this one a miss.
TEA TREE SKIN CLEARING CLAY MASK
Tea Tree is recommended for blemished skin, as it helps to reduce impurities in the skin and absorb excess oil. I have an awful lot of trouble with blemishes and oil on my chin, so have found that using the tea tree products occasionally has helped to reduce this issue. I really like the effects of the tea tree oil, however this can be quite harsh on the skin and was after something a little cooler. I’ve been trying out the tea tree cleansing lotion, but was excited by the idea of a mask.
When using this I do not apply it to my whole face, there is no need for me to use this product on my cheeks, where it can be quite dry and I have no blemishes, so I only use this on my chin, forehead and general T-zone area. This mask does not dry solid and remains a wet sort of consistency, making it a bit more comfortable than the seaweed one! The results of this mask are not instant, but this had made an enormous difference to my blemished skin… A day or two after using this the spots I had been suffering with were practically gone… incredible! But as I said, this was a day or two later – not an instant fix!
Again, I would not recommend this for sensitive skin, Tea Tree can be very harsh on the skin and can give a burning sensation, although this is much cooler than the oil and much calmer on the skin. I definitely would also not recommend this for use on the whole face, as Tea Tree can be drying, as it is supposed to remove excess oils, so really it does only need to be used on oily areas. I have been thoroughly enjoying this product though!
OVERVIEW
Both of these face masks have been wonderful for my skin, combatting my oily T-Zone and drawing out impurities and reducing blemishes. If you have a similar skin type to me (Combination with occasional breakouts) then I would totally recommend these to combat your issues. These are really long lasting too, as I have found that a little goes a long way, I have been using these for a few weeks now, and I have barely made an indent into the tub!
Have you tried either of these face masks? If so, what do you think of them? Do you have any face mask recommendations for me? As always, chat to me in the comments!

The body shop is my go to place for anything skin care! I can’t say I rate their make-up too highly, but their skin care and bath and shower products are my absolute favourites! xx

I did like the seaweed mask but did find it caused a burning sensation. As you say though, sensitives beware!

Girl! I completely missed this review! I’m so sorry your mum didn’t get along with them. I can give you a sample of the Aloe one for her to try if you like? I’m glad they’re working for you though xx

I reckon she would probably get along betther with something soothing like that, yeah! She’s tempted by the Vitamin E range, but isn’t sure if she can let herself spend the money on all the bits she wants. I’m loving them both personally yeah, great recommendations from you! 😘
